Demographic structure of clonal, endemic, and endangered rheophyte bromeliad Dyckia ibiramensis: asexual vs sexual reproduction

چکیده

Abstract In southern Brazil some species of Dyckia genus occur as rheophytes. ibiramensis is an endemic bromeliad that occurs in discrete patches the rocky banks along Itajaí do Norte River, Santa Catarina state. Four populations River were studied. each population, all rosettes counted and diameter rosette was measured. The spatial distribution identified isolated or a clump. clumps classified according to number rosettes. total per population ranged from 295 1,412. Most (98.1%), 41% have reproductive clump two 43 percentage 7.8 26.7%. correlation between area occupation significant positive. Few seedlings rosettes, production offshoots occurred on both immature, with few can indicate clonal propagation predominate D. ibiramensis. Therefore, maintenance monitoring are essential for its long-term situ conservation.

Leaf Epidermis of the Rheophyte Dyckia brevifolia Baker (Bromeliaceae)

Some species of Dyckia Schult. f., including Dyckia brevifolia Baker, are rheophytes that live in the fast-moving water currents of streams and rivers which are subject to frequent flooding, but also period of low water. This study aimed to analyze the leaf epidermis of D. brevifolia in the context of epidermal adaptation to this aquatic plant's rheophytic habitat. The epidermis is uniseriate, ...

Simulated emergence of cyclic sexual-asexual reproduction

Motivated by the cyclic pattern of reproductive regimes observed in some species of green flies (" aphids "), we simulate the evolution of a population enduring harsh seasonal conditions for survival. The reproductive regime of each female is also seasonal in principle and genetically acquired, and can mutate for each newborn with some small probability. The results show a sharp transition at a...

 Structure Learning in Bayesian Networks Using Asexual Reproduction Optimization

A new structure learning approach for Bayesian networks (BNs) based on asexual reproduction optimization (ARO) is proposed in this letter. ARO can be essentially considered as an evolutionary based algorithm that mathematically models the budding mechanism of asexual reproduction. In ARO, a parent produces a bud through a reproduction operator; thereafter the parent and its bud compete to survi...

The Evolutionary Maintenance of Sexual Reproduction: Evidence from the Ecological Distribution of Asexual Reproduction in Clonal Plants

In theory, females that reproduce asexually should enjoy a twofold advantage in fitness over sexual females, yet sex remains the predominant mode of reproduction in virtually all eukaryotes. The evolutionary maintenance of sex is especially puzzling in clonal plants because the transition from sexual to exclusively asexual reproduction is an ever-present possibility in these species. In this ar...

Risky business: sexual and asexual reproduction in variable environments.

Patterns of reproductive uncertainty can have an important influence on population dynamics. There is a crucial distinction between what we describe here as aggregate uncertainty (in which reproductive output in each generation is correlated among the individuals in a population) and idiosyncratic risk (in which reproductive output is independent across individuals). All else being equal, popul...
